Sade Sati is probably the most feared term in astrology, and understanding it properly matters just as much.
How Sade Sati forms
Sade Sati begins when Saturn enters the 12th, 1st or 2nd house from the natal Moon sign. Saturn stays in each sign for roughly two and a half years, so the full cycle runs about seven and a half years.
Three phases
- Rising phase: Saturn in the 12th house, the opening stretch
- Peak phase: Saturn on the natal Moon sign itself, the most pronounced stretch
- Setting phase: Saturn in the 2nd house, effects gradually easing
Dhaiya: the smaller test
When Saturn sits in the 4th or 8th house from the natal Moon sign, it’s called Dhaiya, considered smaller and lighter than Sade Sati.
Something to understand, not fear
Sade Sati is traditionally read as a phase demanding effort, discipline and patience, not a sign of ruin. Many classical texts describe it as a period of self-building.
