What is Sade Sati?
Sade Sati is the roughly 7.5-year period when transiting Saturn moves through the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs counted from your natal Moon sign. It has three phases of about 2.5 years each: rising (the 12th sign), peak (the Moon sign itself) and setting (the 2nd sign).
There is also a smaller cycle called Dhaiya (Ashtama/Kantaka Shani), when transiting Saturn moves through the 4th or 8th sign from the Moon sign, lasting about 2.5 years.
Sade Sati itself is not automatically good or bad. What it means depends on Saturn's own strength, placement and the rest of the chart. This calculator only shows the status, which phase and whether it's active, not a prediction.
FAQ
Questions about Sade Sati
How long does Sade Sati last? +
About 7.5 years total, split into three phases: rising, peak and setting, each around 2.5 years. It recurs roughly once every 30 years in a lifetime, since that is how long Saturn takes to complete one full cycle of the zodiac.
Is Sade Sati always bad? +
No. Classical texts describe the effect as depending on Saturn's own placement, strength and the rest of the chart, not uniform for everyone. This calculator exists to inform, not to alarm.
What is Dhaiya (Ashtama Shani)? +
Dhaiya is a smaller, roughly 2.5-year cycle when transiting Saturn moves through the 4th or 8th sign from your Moon sign. It is separate from Sade Sati but computed the same way.
