Some families ask about picking an auspicious date for a visa interview or a green-card filing, the same way they would for a wedding. It is worth being upfront about what muhurat can and cannot do here.

Most immigration dates are not yours to choose

A visa interview slot is assigned by the embassy or consulate based on availability, not requested by the applicant on a specific date. Similarly, a green-card priority date is set by when a petition is filed and processed, which depends on USCIS timelines, not personal choice. In both cases there is usually no real decision to time astrologically.

Where a date actually is your choice

If you do have some flexibility, for example choosing when to submit an initial application, when to schedule an optional appointment, or when to start a process that has a window of eligible dates, a general auspicious-day check follows the same principles as any muhurat: favorable tithi and vara, avoiding Rahu Kaal for the actual moment of submission.

What muhurat cannot influence

No date choice affects visa approval odds, processing speed, or an officer’s decision. Immigration outcomes depend on documentation, eligibility and government processing, not the date an appointment happens to fall on.

Check a general auspicious window

For the parts of the process you do control, use the muhurat page to check a day’s Rahu Kaal and Abhijit Muhurat.
